Program
Day 1: Welcome to Cyprus!
Arrival on the island from Larnaca / Paphos airport, where you will meet your guide and you will be transferred to your hotel in Akamas Peninsula, Latchi. Enjoy the welcome snacks and drinks that we will prepare for you. Check in your room and free time to enjoy the area.
Day 2: Welcome meeting, Beach Walk, Polis Village
After breakfast, we will have our welcome meeting to get all info about Cyprus, the week and area that we are staying. Maps and brochures will be distributed as well. Then, our lovely beach walk will start from our hotel through the Polis Bay and then to the Village. Day will start with a lovely beach walk on the famous Polis bay, where we will walk up to Asprokremmos Beach. During the walk we will see many, with great view of the Mediterranean beach, mountains and local wild life. The area is a home to approximately 530 indigenous plants, 35 of these are rare and endemic. The bird of the day will be Whimbrel which flew in off the sea and may start feeding on the beach in front us!!! Also migrating were some Grey and Purple Heron, Glossy Ibis and Garganey. Then, following the road through polis, we will walk in the Village up to the Centre, where we will have our coffee & lunch break. Free time at the Village with some shopping, wondering around and relax. Turn back to hotel to swim and get ready for the night. Excursion start: 09:30 Return to the hotel: 18:30. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day 3: Evretou Damp & Lovely Peristerona Village
After breakfast, we will have our first full day tour of the Bird watching. We drive through the village of Neo Horio after which we moved on to the deserted village of Androlikou and then to the valley behind Arodes via Pittokopos. Briefly visit Kannaviou Dam which have some bird life and then drive through the Sarama valley to finish at Evretou Dam. European Bee-eater, Red-backed Shrike, European Golden Oriole, Common Hoopoe, Cyprus Wheatear, Black-eared Wheatear and Black Francolin will be seen as well as Long-legged Buzzard, in the area. Around us will be many Juvenile Red-backed Shrike and Spotted Flycatcher, Willow Warbler, Red-backed Shrike, Lesser Grey Shrike, Whinchat, Eastern Orphean and Willow Warbler, Hoopoe, Cretzschmar’s Bunting, Red-rumped Swallow, Lesser and Common Whitethroat. Off shore at Latchi it’s possible to see Purple Heron throughout the day, Grey Heron, Squacco Herons will be around. After a quick lunch, carry on for the excellent day with special places as well as famous Peristerona Village. Excursion start: 08:30 Return to the hotel: 17:30. Dinner and overnight at our Hotel.
Day 4: Special Avakas Gorge with Lovely Vinery
Today after the breakfast we will visit another gorgeous spot on the west of the island, few people make the effort to visit the area in the autumn and winter. But the cooler autumn climate make for a fantastic time to explore the vicinity, which stands as a coastal water bird passage. Head straight to Avakas Gorge when it gets a little colder and you’re more than likely to spot the Wall creeper. In the wider Akamas area, keep your eyes peeled for the Stonechat, the Cyprus Scoops Owl and many more gorgeous birds. Lovely day with our picnic lunch will be followed by visiting one of the best Vinery of the area, test special local vines as the area is famous in the world with special vines, try local cheese with bread and relax in the lovely garden. Excursion start: 08:30 Return to the hotel: 17:30. Tavern Dinner with Wine and dance and overnight at our hotel.
Day 5: Troodos Peaks, Mouflon’s and Cyprus Specialties
Today after the early breakfast, we will have a really nice climb through the Troodos mountains peaks. You could not possibly compile a birdwatching hotspot list without including the island’s highest peaks! Actually home to all the Cypriot endemic sub-species, just head into the Troodos forest, and while you’re walking through the pine trees, you’re very likely to spot the Cyprus Coal Tit and the Cyprus Jay in the greenery, while the Cyprus Short-toed Tree creeper walks vertically up and down the trunks. Then there’s the Red Crossbill who likes to feast on pine nuts! And if you’re really lucky, you may even catch a rare glimpse of the Cyprus Scoops Owl as well as Famous Cyprus Mouflons!!! Great day with many kind of wild live, birds and orchids, homemade lunch under the pine trees and coffee break in a local Village. Excursion start: 08:00 Return to the hotel: 17:30. Dinner and overnight at our Hotel.
Day 6: Take a good look at all the flowers in full bloom - Akamas
Today after breakfast we will be around the Beautifull Akamas area with a little birds, a little flowers and many local experience. We will visit some villagers to see how they live, cook and run their daily life. We will learn some Cypriot cooking, see how they make Halloumi (Cypriot Cheese) and eat hot bread with Cheese and drink homemade vines. Bear in mind, Akamas peninsula has approximately 530 indigenous plants, 35 of these are rare and endemic. Visit the area now and keep your eyes peeled for the rare wild red tulip (Tulipa Cypria) and several kinds of orchids. A species of an endemic cyclamen also grows in the Akamas area, while it’s hard to miss the crown daisies (Similloudi) and characteristic ‘Lapsana’ (Charlock/Sinapsis alba) with their small yellow flowers. ‘Lales’ (Anemone coronaria) also grow in the area, as well as the yellow ‘Xinidin’ (Oxalis) and white flowered ‘Arkoscordos’ (Allium neapolitanum). And you certainly can’t miss the Rasin; a thorny bush characterized by an abundance of pretty, yellow flowers, widely known in as the ‘Prickly broom’. Day 7: Free Day or Cultural Capital of CYPRUS “Paphos” & Mosaic Museum
As it’s our last day, you may want to relax and enjoy the area with the beach, you may want to visit the lovely Polis Village with a bit of shopping or you can join us where will head to the ancient capital of Cyprus – Paphos. We will see the Column of the Apostle Paul. Then, we walk to the old town of Kato Paphos, through historic sites such as the Forty Columns (named after the large number of granite columns of the ancient Agora), built in the 7th century AD, the Roman Conservatory (Archaeological Park Square with mosaics). After lunch, we will visit Paphos Castle and the famous museum with the mosaics. Included dinner and overnight at our hotel in Akamas. Excursion start: 09:30 Return to the hotel: 18:00. Gala Night with Tavern Music, dance, drinks and special menu and overnight at our hotel.
Day 8: Goodbye Cyprus - See you again!
Depending on the departure of your flight, we will arrange your transfer by bus to Larnaca / Paphos airport.
