Day 1: LARNACA - COLOMBO
Gathering at Larnaca airport and departure for the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo with a stopover. Overnight on the plane.
Day 2: COLOMBO
Arrival in the capital of Sri Lanka, the bustling Colombo. Welcome by our representatives and then we will have a guided tour of the city, where among other things we will see the old Parliament building, Independence Square, the Galle coastal avenue as well as old churches, mosques and Hindu temples, which bear witness to the various changes of the island's conquerors. Our tour will end with a meal at a local restaurant. Transfer and check-in at the hotel. The rest of the day is free. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: COLOMBO - ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE - DAMBULLA
After breakfast we will depart for Pinnawela to visit the largest Elephant Orphanage in the world, which was established in 1975. Built next to a river, the Orphanage counts around 100 elephants as well as young elephants, many of which were found injured and abandoned. We will continue to the impressive caves of Dambulla, which housed the exiled King Balagamba for a long time in the 1st century BC. When he regained his throne, he built this magnificent temple here, which he donated to the Buddhist monks. It is a unique complex of 5 caves, covered with magnificent frescoes, which depict moments from the life of Buddha. The caves are also decorated with Buddha statues of various sizes. Day 4: DAMBULLA - SIGIRIYA ROCK - MATALE - KANDY
After breakfast we leave Dambulla behind and visit the famous Sigiriya Rock, the symbol of Sri Lanka. With a height of 250 meters, it is an amazing stone fortress, harmonized with the creation of nature and human construction capabilities. It was built in 477 AD and is also known as the "Lion Fortress", because of the huge lion (about 3 meters) that guarded the entrance. Today only its paws are preserved. At the top of the rock are the foundations of a huge palace with the famous aquatic gardens and the royal pool. We continue to Kandy. On the way we will make a stop in the city of Matale, where we will visit a spice nursery-garden. Spices have been one of Sri Lanka's most important exports for centuries, where in addition to cooking, they are also used to make medicines and cosmetics. Arrival in Kandy and guided tour of the city, which is built on the banks of an artificial lake and was the last capital of the kings of Ceylon. We will also visit one of the most important temples in which the relic of the tooth of Buddha is kept. Our day will end in the best way by watching local traditional dances. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: KANDY - ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS - NUWARA ELIJAH
After breakfast we will depart following a wonderful and lush green route to the heart of tea country, the beautiful city of Nuwara Eliya. On the way we will visit the Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya. In their vast area one will encounter amazing varieties of plants, flowers and trees. Then we will go to a tea plantation where we will be given the opportunity to observe the entire process of producing the best tea in the world. Arrival in the "garden city" of Nuwara Eliya, which was founded by the British colonialists in the 19th century and is known as "little England", as it was their favorite city for holidays. Transfer and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: NUVARA ELIGIA - ELLA - YALA
Breakfast and departure to one of the most beautiful cities in Sri Lanka, Ella. During the journey we will have the opportunity to admire unique images of natural beauty, such as the unique Ravana waterfalls, Little Adam’s Peak, or as some call them (Scottish highlands of Sri Lanka), as well as the Nine Arches Bridge, one of the most popular attractions in the area that rises above the tea plantations. If we are lucky we can also see the train passing by…..We continue to Yala. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: YALA - SAFARI NATIONAL PARK - GALLE - WEST COAST
Today is a day full of excitement. At dawn we will depart for a Safari in Yala National Park, where we will come into contact with the natural environment and the animal kingdom of the country. Elephants, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles, hundreds of species of rare birds will captivate you with their beauty. We will then return to the hotel for breakfast and then depart for the famous West Coast, the paradise of Sri Lanka with its turquoise shores. On the way we will visit the city of Mirissa and the unique Galle, with a strong colonial past, since for many years it was the main port of Sri Lanka, where we will admire the proud fortress of the city that was originally built by the Portuguese and then passed into the hands of the Dutch and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today the fortress area is filled with small shops, cafes. We continue to our final destination, the West Coast, where the best beaches in the country are located. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8: WEST COAST
Breakfast and free day to enjoy the turquoise beaches with palm trees and relax. We also recommend for those who wish, an optional excursion - safari on the Madu River. Dinner and overnight.
Day 9-10: WEST COAST - COLOMBO - LARNACA
After breakfast we will depart for Colombo, where you will have free time to do your shopping. In the evening we invite you to a farewell dinner. Then we will be transferred to the airport to take the return flight. Arrival in Larnaca unexpectedly impressed by a country rich in history, myths, green mountains and wonderful coasts with turquoise waters.
