Day 1: LARNACA - COLOMBO
Gathering at Larnaca airport and departure to the Sri Lankan capital Colombo with a stopover. Overnight on the plane.
Day 2: COLOMBO
Arrival in the capital of Sri Lanka, bustling Colombo. Welcome by our representatives and then we will have a guided tour of the city, where we will among others see the old Parliament Building, Independence Square, Galle Beach Boulevard as well as old churches, mosques and Hindu temples, which bear witness to the various changes of conquerors of the island. Our tour will end with lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer and check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day free. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: COLOMBO - GOL - TISSAMAHARAMA
After breakfast, departure for the city of Gol, with a strong colonial past, since for many years it was the main port of Sri Lanka. we will visit the proud fortress of the city which was originally built by the Portuguese and then passed into the hands of the Dutch and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today the area of the fortress is full of small shops, cafes, etc. We will continue to the town of Tissamaharama. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: TISSAMAHARAMA - YALA NATIONAL PARK SAFARI - NUVARA ELIGIA - KANDY
Today holds great emotions. At the first dawn we will depart for a Safari in the Yala National Park, where we will come into contact with the natural environment and the animal kingdom of the country. Elephants, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles, hundreds of species of rare birds and beautiful peacocks will captivate you with their beauty. Afterwards we will return to the hotel for breakfast and then depart following a wonderful and green route to the heart of the tea country. Arrival at the "garden city" of Nuwara Eliya. The city was founded by British colonialists in the 19th century and is known as "little England" as it was their favorite holiday town. After the tour we will go to a tea plantation where we will have the opportunity to watch the whole production process of the best tea in the world. Let's move on to Candy. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: KANDY - ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE - ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS
After breakfast we will depart for Pinnavela to visit the largest Elephant Orphanage in the world, which was established in 1975. Built next to a river, the Orphanage houses around 100 elephants as well as baby elephants, many of which were found injured and abandoned. Then we will visit the Royal Botanical Gardens Peradenigia. In their vast area one encounters amazing varieties of plants, flowers and trees. Next is a guided tour of Kandy which is built on the banks of an artificial lake, and was the last capital of the kings of Ceylon. we will also visit one of the most important temples, where the tooth relic of Buddha is kept. Our day will end in the best way by watching local traditional dances as well as walking on hot coals. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: KANDY - MATALE - DABOULA
Breakfast and departure for the town of Matale where we will visit a spice nursery-garden. Spices have for centuries been one of Sri Lanka's most important exports, where apart from cooking, they are also used to make medicines and cosmetics. We will continue to the impressive caves of Dambula which housed for a long time the exiled king Valagamba during the 1st century BC. When he regained his throne he built this magnificent temple here, which he donated to the Buddhist monks. It is a unique complex of 5 caves, covered with wonderful wall paintings, in which moments from the life of the Buddha are depicted. The caves are also adorned with Buddha statues of various sizes and postures. Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: DABOULA - SIGIRIGIA ROCK - TSILO
After breakfast we leave Dambulla behind and we will visit the famous rock of Sigiriya, the symbol of Sri Lanka. With a height of 250 meters, it is an amazing stone fortress, harmonized in the creation of nature and human construction capabilities. It was built in 477 AD. and it is also known as the "Lion fortress", because of the huge lion (about 3 meters) that guarded the entrance. Today only his paws are preserved. At the top of the rock are the foundations of a huge palace with its famous water gardens and royal pool. We will continue to the seaside town of Chilo. Check in at the hotel. Day 8: CHILO - COLOMBO
Breakfast and a few hours of rest and relaxation at the hotel or the beach. Also try local specialties with amazing flavors, with curry as the protagonist of course. We will then depart for Colombo. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. The rest of the day free to take your walks in fragrant colonial Colombo. We suggest starting from the historic center and Pettah district, which is bustling with life and is full of small shops and street markets. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 9-10: COLOMBO - LARNACA
After breakfast free time at your disposal for shopping in the bustling flea markets or Crescat Boulevard, with its luxury shops and malls. In the evening we invite you to a farewell dinner. Afterwards we will be transferred to the airport to take the return flight. Arrival in Larnaca unexpectedly impressed by a country rich in history, myths, green mountains and wonderful coasts with turquoise waters.
