Program
Day 1 (Wednesday): LARNAKA-THESSALONIKI
Gathering at Larnaka airport and flight to Thessaloniki. Arrival, pick-up and transfer to our hotel in Thessaloniki. Check-in and the rest of the day free in Thessaloniki. Overnight stay.
Day 2 (Wednesday): THESSALONIKI - METEORA - METSOVO - IOANNINA
Then we depart for Meteora, the second largest monastery complex after that of Mount Athos. They are a unique miracle, as on the one hand we have the miracle of nature with the huge inaccessible rocks and on the other the miracle of man who managed to build monasteries in such inaccessible places. The construction of the monasteries began in the 14th century and by the 16th century there were 24 monasteries in operation. Today, there are 6 monasteries operating and we will visit the one of Agios Stefanos. In Meteora we can see the way Byzantine icons were painted and learn about the technique of their construction. Optional lunch in Kalambaka and we continue to Metsovo, which is built at an altitude of 1200 meters, a mountain city that charms with its amazing colors and unique icons. Free time in the central square of Metsovo, which is surrounded by beautiful cafes and small shops. Depending on the time of arrival in Ioannina, we will visit the famous Vrellis Museum with life-size wax figures covering topics from various periods of Greek History, the Greek Revolution of 1821, but also the tragedy of Cyprus. Arrival in Ioannina, check-in at our hotel and free time. Those who wish can attend the Mass of the Crucifixion in a nearby church. Overnight stay.
Day 3 (M. Paraskevi): IOANNINA - ZAGOROHORIA
After breakfast we will see the most important sights of Ioannina, centered on the Castle, and then we will ascend to Monodendri, which is one of the most popular villages of Zagochoria. Free time to walk on the cobblestone path that leads to the Monastery of Agia Paraskevi, on the edge of the Vikos Gorge. We continue to Kalpaki and then to Konitsa. Free time to see traditional stone houses, old mansions, paved streets, the church of Agios Nikolaos, the house where Agios Paisios lived his youth. Free time for lunch in the Konitsa area and return to Ioannina. Early in the evening we will attend the Epitaph service. Return to the hotel and overnight.
Day 4 (M. Saturday): IOANNINA - IGOUMENITSA - CORFU - IOANNINA
Breakfast and early morning departure for the port of Igoumenitsa and sailing to Corfu. Arrival and transfer to the city of Corfu to attend the Litany of Saint Spyridon. At 11.00 the first Resurrection takes place and the custom of ‘Botis’ begins, i.e. the breaking of the jugs that the Corfiots throw from the windows. Then a tour of the city of Corfu and free time for lunch. Early afternoon return to Ioannina. In the evening we will attend the Resurrection Service. Dinner with Mageiritsa and red eggs follows at a local restaurant. Overnight.
Day 5 (Easter Sunday): IOANNINA - ISLAND
After breakfast, our day is dedicated to the beautiful city of Ioannina. We will go down to the port to board boats where we will pass to the legendary island of Kyra-Frosini in Lake Pamvotida. Time to tour the island where we will see the monastery of Agios Panteleimonas (today a folklore museum) where Ali Pasha had found refuge and the monastery of Agios Nikolaos of the Philanthropines. Free time and return to the city of Ioannina where we will have a festive Easter meal at a local restaurant. The rest of the day is free. Overnight.
Day 6 (Easter Monday): IOANNINA - THESSALONIKI - LARNACA
Breakfast and we depart early in the morning heading to Thessaloniki airport where we will take the return flight to Larnaca.
