Program
Day 1: LARNACA - ATHENS - AGIA THEODORA VASTAS - OLYMPIA
Meeting at Larnaca airport and flight to Athens. Arrival, pickup and departure for Tripoli. Stopping and passing through Megalopolis we will reach the area of Vasta, where the church of Agia Theodora is located, from its roof towering trees have grown, while gurgling water flows from its foundations. Free time and we continue to our hotel located in the area of Ancient Olympia where we will stay for five nights. Arrival, settling in and free time. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: TOUR OF ANCIENT OLYMPIA - KATAKOLO
After breakfast we will have a tour of the archaeological site of Olympia which is a beautiful sacred site where the greatest values of sports were born and athletes emerged as global human and sports models. On the tour we will see, among other things, the temple of Zeus, the Gymnasium, the Stadium that accommodated up to 40,000 spectators, the altar of Hera where the Olympic flame is lit every 4 years for the summer Olympic Games. A short distance away is the Museum with priceless exhibits such as the Hermes of Praxiteles, the Victory of the Paeion, etc.. Later we will see the monument of Baron Pierre De Coubertin and continue to the seaside Katakolo, where we will visit the Museum of Ancient of Greek Technology & Musical Instruments by Kostas Kotsanas, with more than 200 functional models of mechanisms and inventions of the ancient Greek culture. Free time for a walk and food in its picturesque port. Return to our hotel dinner and overnight.
Day 3: DAY TRIP - CRUISE TO ZAKYNTHOS
Breakfast and transfer to the port of Kyllini where we will take the boat to the Fioro of the Levant, as the Latins called Zakynthos. The duration of the trip is 1 hour and 15 minutes. Arrival and visit to the patron saint of the island, Agios Dionysios. Here is kept the shroud of the Saint who, according to tradition, protected his temple from the earthquake that shook Zakynthos in 1953. We continue to the hill of Strani, where Dionysios Solomos inspired the "Hymn to Freedom" and the "Free Besiegers". . Return to the city of Zakynthos and free time in the central square where the museum of Dionysios Solomos and Kalvos is located. Return to our hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: KALAMATA
Today our day is dedicated to the capital of Messinia. Breakfast and departure for Kalamata, our first stop will be at the Holy Monastery of Resurrection of Christ which is located on the coastal road of Kalamata and we will continue to the Metropolitan Church of Ypapanti, to the Holy Monastery of Kalogreon which was known for its silk scarves, famous throughout Greece and we will look at the old castle where Princess Izabo and others lived. Time to enjoy your coffee and do your shopping from the rich market of Kalamata. Late afternoon return to Kalamata. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: CYPARISSIA - PYLO
Breakfast and we leave for Kyparissia, whose history is erased by the many monuments in the area. Short tour and stop for coffee on the beach of the beautiful city. We continue to Pylos, which is amphitheatrically built at the western end of Messinia known for the Battle of Navarino. Here we will visit the famous castle of Pylos, we will see the square of the Three Admirals and an optional visit to the martyred island of Sphakteria. Free time for lunch and ice cream. Return to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: OLYMPIA - PATRA - ATHENS - LARNACA
Breakfast and we leave for Patras. We will make our first stop at the imposing church of Agios Andreas and continue to the center of Patras for sightseeing and free time. Early in the afternoon transfer to Eleftherios Venizelos airport where we will take the return flight to Larnaca.
