Day 21/4: Larnaca - Athens - Livadia - Thermopiles - Volos
Gathering at Larnaca Airport and departure for Athens. Arriving, boarding the buses and starting our journey to central Greece. Our first stop in the city of Livadia. At Krya springs time stops and you are automatically transported to another season. Where they all look like they are drawn from a painting or a fairy tale picture. Water mills, small waterfalls, centuries-old plane trees, running water and stone bridges. Those who know the existence of this magical place will know that the waterfalls, watermills and running waters that feed the city are the legendary river named Erkina. We continue our journey to Thermopylae. Here, in 480 BC, the king of Sparta Leonidas and his 300 soldiers closed the narrow passage preventing the overthrow of the Persian army. Today, we meet the monument of Leonidas and the archaeological site making a mental journey in the history of the place. In the Thermopylae are the homonymous baths. According to mythology, Hephaestus, at the request of the goddess Athena, created the springs to be washed and recovered by Heracles after his labors. The organization of the springs began in 1935. The water temperature is 40C. It is suitable for the treatment of rheumatic, gynecological and peripheral nerve diseases. Then, traveling along the lacy coasts of the Gulf of Maliakos, we reach our destination in the capital of Magnesia, in the beautiful city of Volos, with the neoclassical buildings and parks that Pagasitikos rains and shades Pelion with the myriolet of. Day 2 22/4: Makrinitsa - Portaria - Monastery of Panagia Portarea - Chania - Kissos - Tsagarada
After breakfast we go up to the lush legendary mountain of Pelion, which stubbornly resists the time and the sirens of modern life. We arrive at the "balcony of the Pagasitic", the famous Makrinitsa, perched on the steep slope of the mountain, standing like an unseen vigilator above the city of Volos. Walk to the main square with the perennial plane trees, pilgrimage to the church of St. John the Baptist, photos at the marble fountain "Immortal water" with lion-shaped taps and coffee time at the famous "Theophilos". Then we head to the traditional Portaria, with the running waters and picturesque cobbled streets. Free time for walks, herbal shopping, mountain tea and royal jelly. The Monastery of Our Lady of Portara is a worthwhile visit. It was built in the first half of the 13th century and around it the original settlement was organized. The frescoes date from 1581 and the wood-carved iconostasis was built in the early 18th century. Our next stop in Chania is where the ski resort Agriolefkes with magnificent views of Pagasitikos on the one hand and the Aegean Sea on the other, constitute the most mountainous settlement of Pelion at an altitude of 1190m. Then we arrive at Kissos village, hidden in a dense forest, which is composed of plane trees, beech, chestnut trees, apple trees, apple trees, walnuts, firs, bears, cherries, vineyards, hydrangeas and of course amethysts. Day 3 23/4: Meteora - Kalambaka
After breakfast boarding the bus and excursion to beautiful Kalambaka which is located just below the imposing Meteora rocks. It is the largest city in the region and the capital of the homonymous province. From there we will climb the spectacular Meteora rocks that dominate the Kalambaka between the mountains of Koziaka and Antioch. This magnificence of nature reveals all its greatness for centuries now, as it is a unique geological phenomenon in beauty and an important monument of Orthodoxy. The Meteora, which has been designated the second Holy Mountain, has continued its monastic tradition for nearly six centuries. We will visit the monastery of Ag. Stephanou, which is built on the top of a rock that has an area of 7,500 square meters. Return to Volos in the afternoon. Overnight.
Day 4 24/4: Ano Lechonia - Ride with Pelion train - Milies - Vizitsa - IM Famous Commander in Chief
Breakfast and departure for Ano Lechonia, where we will embark on the "train of Pelion", the legendary Munchouris. We refer, of course, to the historic Volos - Milies railway, built in two stages from 1894 to 1903 and after a long period of rest it climbs again in Pelion. Starting off it goes uphill into the woods, clamoring and whistling like it used to, and passing through the traditional settlements of Ano Gatzea, where it also takes a short stop at Agia Triada, Agios Athanasios Pinakaton Station, Argyriatika Terminal. From here begins the picturesque cobblestone road leading to the center of the village. Traditional guesthouses, taverns, the church of Taxiarches built before 1741, the folklore museum and the library, one of the oldest in Greece, are the sights to see. Finally, we will board our bus to depart for Vizitsa, the village that won the "Golden Apple" as one of the most well-preserved traditional villages, with its beautiful and impressive mansions. Afternoon return to Volos with a stop for pilgrimage to the Sacred Women Monastery of Pammegistos Taxiarches which is located between two picturesque villages of Pelion, Agios Vlasios and Agios Georgios Nileas. Overnight.
Day 5 25/4: Glyfa - Agiokampos - Saint David - Saint John the Russian - Chalkida - Athens
Breakfast at the hotel and we leave Volos for Glyfa, boarding the boat to Agiokampos Evia. We arrive and continue our journey for the Saint David's Monastery dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior. In the temple of the monastery are preserved the miraculous bones of Saint David the Elder, his incense and stone. Then we reach the village of Prokopi and the church of St. John of Russia for pilgrimage to the sacred relics of the miracle-working Saint. Immediately afterwards we reach Chalkida, where it is built on both sides of the Euripos River, where part of it occupies part of Euboea and the other in Central Greece. We will see the tidal alternating motion of the waters of the Euboean Gulf. Arriving at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos airport in the evening and returning to Cyprus, departing with the best impressions of our five day stay in Greece.
